The Digital Services Act (DSA) has introduced strict transparency reporting requirements, and all online platforms, including online games with social interactions like chat and videos must be ready to submit their first report by April 16, 2025. Companies with less than 50 employees and €10 million in annual turnover are exempt from annual reporting. These reports provide regulators with insight into how platforms moderate content, enforce rules, and respond to authority requests.
Miss the deadline? You risk non-compliance, penalties, and regulatory scrutiny. Here’s everything you need to know to stay ahead of the game.
What Needs to Be in a DSA Transparency Report?
Gaming companies must submit a machine-readable transparency report at least once a year (or every six months for smaller platforms). Reports must include:
- Authority Orders – The number and nature of removal requests from regulators and law enforcement, plus response times.
- Content Reports – A breakdown of user-submitted reports, including those from trusted flaggers, actions taken, and how reports were categorized.
- Proactive Moderation – Details on AI and automated moderation tools, their accuracy, false positive prevention measures, and oversight.
- Appeals & Reversals – A summary of appeals filed, decision outcomes, and how often removals were overturned.
- User Suspensions & Disputes – Data on suspended users, categorized by violation type, false reports, and abusive appeals.
- Out-of-Court Disputes – The number of moderation-related disputes resolved outside of legal action, plus outcomes and time to settlement.
- Monthly Active Users (MAU) – The average number of users active over the last six months.
For medium-sized and large gaming platforms, this report isn’t optional—it’s the law.
